RUSSIANS SEE COUNTRY GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.

Despite recent upbeat statements by Russian officials, most Russians think the country is headed in the wrong direction, Sovetskaya Rossiya reported June 8. In a recent poll, 70 percent of them said that things were getting worse, and 69 percent said that they believed the Russian economy would be even worse this year than last. 80 percent said that Yeltsin was failing in his economic policy and 73 percent criticized the Russian president for his approach to ethnic conflicts.
