RUSSIA’S NEW LAW ON RELIGION STARTS TO BITE.

Only a week has passed since President Boris Yeltsin signed Russia’s controversial new law on religion, which critics say gives too many privileges to the Russian Orthodox Church. Hare Krishna devotees were the first to report increased police harassment. Now, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has made a formal complaint that its priests and nuns have been forcibly evicted by Russian police from a church in Noginsk, near Moscow, and that the church has been handed over to the Russian Orthodox Church.
