Serbia’s parliament today reportedly backed a Kosovo peace deal. Word of this development came, not from an official announcement, but from comments made to the press following the session by various deputies, some of whom are quoted as saying that the plan submitted by President Slobodan Milosevic was approved in its entirety, without amendments. There was no immediate reaction from Milosevic. Western diplomats were cautious, saying that a mere parliamentary resolution is insufficient to produce a suspension of the NATO air campaign in Yugoslavia (Reuters, UPI, CNN June 3).
