During two days of talks in Tehran over the weekend Russian and Iranian diplomats confirmed their intention to continue strengthening bilateral ties. Both sides called for increased trade, and detailed discussions were reportedly held on the latest developments in Tajikistan and Afghanistan, as well as on issues related to the status of the Caspian Sea. Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Posuvalyuk headed the Russian delegation, which was also looking to establish contacts with the new leadership of Iran’s Foreign Ministry following a change of government in Tehran.
