U.S. FIRST LADY IN LVIV.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 216

Hillary Clinton yesterday completed a tour of five former Soviet republics with a one-day visit to the Ukrainian city of Lviv. There she delivered a speech on democracy and independence to a cheering crowd, gathered around the monument to victims of Soviet repression outside the headquarters of the former KGB. She also visited places of Catholic and Jewish worship, where community members recalled Soviet-era persecution of religion. City fathers sought help for restoring Lviv’s historic architectural treasures. (Western agencies, November 17-18; see also item below)
