U.S. WARNS RUSSIA NOT TO AID IRAN’S MISSILE PROGRAM.

The U.S. government has sent a diplomatic warning to Moscow regarding the alleged transfer of missile technology to Iran. (See Monitor, February 12) American officials claim that Russia has recently given Iran information and components for the Russian SS-4 missile. (Los Angeles Times, February 12) Known by NATO as the "Sandal," the SS-4 was developed in the early 1960’s and was the Soviet missile involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was banned by the 1987 INF Treaty.
