UKRAINE MAY REQUEST U.S. SUPPORT ON BLACK SEA FLEET

. In Washington on an official visit, Ukrainian prime minister Yevhen Marchuk and members of his delegation have consulted with U.S. specialists about international practice regarding military bases in foreign territories, with specific reference to the Russian-Ukrainian dispute over the Black Sea Fleet. Marchuk told Ukrainian journalists accompanying him that he is not asking the U.S. to take a position at this time on the issue; but if the situation does not improve, Ukraine may turn to the U.S. for support.
