YELTSIN AND ZYUGANOV REVEAL THEIR SECRET WEAPONS.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 68

Communist party presidential candidate Gennady Zyuganov, who has claimed that much of Communist doctrine is in full accordance with the Gospel message, marked Orthodox Palm Sunday by touring the Trinity Sergius monastery near Moscow in the company of Russian Orthodox monks. The same day, Nina Yeltsina did her bit for her husband’s reelection campaign by giving an interview to Russia’s independent NTV in which she said the president not only reads documents for up to two hours before leaving for work at 8 a.m., but washes up his own breakfast dishes. (Western agencies, April 8) Last week, Communist leaders called a press conference to complain that Yeltsin’s campaign was getting blanket coverage on Russian state-run television whereas Zyuganov’s was getting very little attention.
