YELTSIN APPEARS ON TV, ADMITS HEART ATTACK.

Russian PresidentBoris Yeltsin appeared on Russian television July 18 and acknowledgedthat he had suffered a heart attack on July 10. He said that hisdoctors had promised a complete recovery, but his admission followingdays during which his aides have played down the seriousness ofhis condition, and during which the Russian media have speculatedthat Yeltsin was actually much sicker than they acknowledged,will do little to reassure the Russian people. As Moskovskykomsomolets remarked on July 18, US Secretary of State WarrenChristopher "must know what ails our president more thanofficial sources do." The broadcast came as presidentialaides denied media claims that a photograph of Yeltsin releasedJuly 15 was actually taken much earlier.
