The Russian president has appointed acting ministers to fill the posts left vacant by State Property Minister Maksim Boiko and the Head of the Federal Bankruptcy Service Petr Mostovoi. They were sacked last weekend for their role in the scandal over book royalties that now threatens to topple Chubais. First Deputy Minister of State Property Farit Gazizullin has been appointed acting minister of state property. From 1995 to 1996 he was First Deputy Prime Minister in Tatarstan, in which capacity he also chaired the Tatar State Property Committee. Mostovoi’s place as chairman of the Federal Bankruptcy Commission has been filled on a temporary basis by Georgy Tal, formerly first deputy director of the commission.
