Russian President Boris Yeltsin will resume his interrupted holiday today or tomorrow in the Valdai lakeland region in Novgorod Oblast, northwest of Moscow. (Itar-Tass, August 3) His departure from the capital is expected to put a brief stop to the rumor mill of speculation over possible government changes.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sergei Kirienko is to ask State Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznev to recall parliament from its summer vacation in mid-August to discuss several new bills submitted by the government and also some which the Duma has previously rejected. Seleznev warned Kirienko yesterday not to expect the Duma to agree to any request for increased governmental powers. (Itar-Tass, August 3)
