Viktor Anpilov, hard-line leader of "Working Russia," is reported to have said that, if he was appointed to oversee the mass media in a Zyuganov government, he would halt the import by Russian state-run television of Latin American soap operas. Anpilov said the serials "do not reflect our way of life and reality." (Interfax, June 12) The soap operas are beloved by millions of Russians and Anpilov’s statement, if correctly reported, seems unlikely to win Zyuganov many votes.
