The Jamestown Foundation invites you to attend a discussion on the ongoing Iraqi Insurgency, its Sunni and Shi’a components, and the impact of al-Qaeda in Iraq today. Our four distinguished panelists will provide their perspectives on the regional repercussions of the situation, as well as assess the challenge it poses to the United States. The panel will be moderated by Jamestown President Glen Howard, followed by a short question and answer session.

Mamoun Fandy is a Senior Fellow at the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University. He is also a columnist for the two largest Arabic language papers, al-Hayat and Ash-Sharq al-Awsat and has written extensively on Arab politics, terrorism, radical Islam and regional security issues in the Middle East.

Stephen Ulph is a senior fellow of the Jamestown Foundation and editor of Jamestown’s Terrorism Focus. One of the preeminent analysts of the Islamic world, Mr. Ulph specializes in the security and political developments of the Middle East and North Africa and was previously an editor for Jane’s Information Group.

Mahan Abedin is the editor of Jamestown’s Terrorism Monitor. He has been a Middle East analyst in the UK for several years, specializing in Iraq and Iran. He also contributes to the Lebanese Daily Star and Persian weeklies in London.

Sam Gardiner has taught military strategy and operations at the National War College, Air War College and Naval War College, and is involved in war games on the military situation in Iraq. He has appeared regularly on print and television media analyzing military operations.
