U.S.-UKRAINIAN MILITARY EXERCISE HELD.

A reinforced company of Ukrainian marines conducted from September 11 through 25 the Autumn Allies 95 joint exercise with U.S. marines in North Carolina, under NATO’s Partnership for Peace program. Vice-Admiral Mykola Kostriv, deputy commander of Ukraine’s navy, commanded the Ukrainian contingent. The exercise focused on training for joint peacekeeping operations, escorting convoys, patrolling zones of conflict, and target practice. (15)

The exercise in North Carolina was a follow-up to the one conducted by U.S. and Ukrainian marines in July near Mykolaiv in Ukraine. This year Ukraine has become an especially active participant in joint military exercises with NATO countries.
