Russia’s nuclear safety watchdog

voiced concern on Wednesday about supervision of the country’s military facilities after President Boris Yeltsin formally limited its responsibility to the civilian sector. Yuri Vishnevsky, head of the Gosatomnadzor agency, told a news conference that Yeltsin had barred civilian inspectors from the vast military-industrial complex. He said he was especially worried the safety conditions surrounding the military’s storage and transport of nuclear fuel used in submarine reactors.
