Althoughresidence permits are supposed to be a thing of the past, thosehoping to become Muscovites will have to pay 50 percent more beginningSeptember to register themselves in the Russian capital, Trudreported August 17. A family of three, for example, will haveto pay 18 million rubles ($3,600) instead of the 12 million ($2,400)it must pay now. Meanwhile, Russia’s Federal Migration Servicehas agreed to set up special offices in the Russian capital’sairports to deal with requests for political asylum and to createa special center to house refugees and non-citizens falling inthis category, Moskovsky komsomolets reported August 18.
