RUSSIAN DEFENSE MINISTER LISTS ARMY DEAD IN CHECHNYA.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 188

Russian defense minister General Igor Rodionov has told the newspaper Komsomolskaya pravda that 2,941 army troops had been killed in Chechnya as of October 4. His total does not include air force personnel or troops from other agencies. It might be some time before a full accounting is made. Last week Aleksandr Lebed told the Duma that 3,726 federal troops had died, but the Interior Ministry alone has admitted to more losses than the difference between these two figures.
