ZYUGANOV ALLEGES FRAUD IN ROSTOV ELECTION.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 183
Russian Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov says he suspects that vote-rigging in last Sunday’s gubernatorial election enabled the pro-Yeltsin incumbent, Vladimir Chub, to defeat his Communist challenger, Leonid Ivanchenko. (NTV, October 1) Voting was slowed by stormy weather that knocked out power to some polling stations and hindered public transport. At 42 percent voter turnout was low, a development that usually favors Communist candidates. Yet Chub won 62 percent of the vote to Ivanchenko’s 32 percent. (Itar-Tass, September 30)
