RUSSIA URGES STRONGER EU ROLE IN MIDDLE EAST.

Following talks in Moscow with European Union leaders, Russian foreign minister Yevgeny Primakov on November 8 called for the EU to play a greater role — "not only in the economic sphere but in the political one as well" — in Middle East peace negotiations. Primakov added that EU actions in the Middle East should not conflict with those of either Russia or the U.S. (Interfax, November 8) Primakov recently returned from an official visit to the region.
