REPORT UPBEAT ON THOSE RETURNING FROM INGUSHETIA.

On July 20, the newspaper Trud published an upbeat account of the return to Grozny (Djohar) of a column of buses containing Chechen IDPs being transferred from the “Bella” IDP camp in Ingushetia. The returning forced migrants were to be housed in a dormitory in the Oktyabrsky District of the Chechen capital. Along the road, the reporter, Vadim Karpov, wrote, the column was unexpectedly overtaken by several police cars with flashing lights. “The President of Ingushetia, Murat Zyazikov, had come to say farewell to the migrants.” The account also mentions the fact that some IDPs still fear to go back. “I would go back,” one Chechen woman told Karpov, “but I am afraid to. I went to Grozny to visit the graves of my parents and I found myself in a crossfire. People were killed in front of my eyes.” “In Chechnya,” another woman told him, “it continues to be terrible.”
