In yet another effort to diversify his country’s external relations, Belarusian foreign minister Uladzimir Senka expressed Minsk’s regret over its own expulsion of two Turkish diplomats for alleged espionage activities. On June 21, a spokesman for the Turkish foreign ministry welcomed Senka’s statement to the Turkish ambassador in Minsk, and noted that Senka has said that improving relations with Turkey is of great importance to Belarus and that he wished the ties would expand, Minsk radio reported. Ankara may now lift its freeze on a planned $100 million loan to Belarus.
