KAZAKHSTAN SEEKS TURKISH HELP ON PIPELINE.

During Turkish President Suleyman Demirel’s recent visit to Alma-Aty, Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev pressed him to help block Russian efforts to control all oil exports from Central Asia and the Caucasus, Turkish radio said June 22. Nazarbayev also asked Demirel for credits to pay for several projects Moscow openly opposes, including the transfer of the Kazakhstan capital to a less Russified site. Turkey’s Eximbank has already opened credit lines to Kazakhstan worth $200 million, of which $110 million have been disbursed. Nazarbayev continues his diplomatic efforts to find foreign support to use against Moscow: on June 22, he was in Indonesia.
