Talks between Russian and Chechen officials will continue June 20, Russian radio reported, with both the OSCE coordinators and the Chechens saying they were pleased with the progress in the first session June 19. Meanwhile, the caravan of buses carrying the Chechen fighters, and 137 substitute and volunteer hostages, continued its slow trek back to Chechnya. Its initial route south was blocked by the local Russian army commander for unknown reasons; the caravan on June 20 was near the Daghestan city of Khasavyurt where the Chechens were seeking guarantees of safe passage from local officials.
