ALL-CAUCASUS SUMMIT IN THE MAKING?

In St. Petersburg on September 5, CIS Interparliamentary chairman Vladimir Shumeiko Parliamentary presided over the opening of a conference on peace and stability in the Caucasus which included delegations from Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. Shumeiko later told the press that the meeting is a prelude to an all-Caucasus summit, likely to be convened and chaired in late September by Boris Yeltsin, and to be attended by the leaders of the Transcaucasus countries and of the Russian Federation’s constituent republics in North Caucasus.
