ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES ELECTION RESULTS.

The Armeniancentral electoral commission released the final results of theNational Assembly elections in 70 districts July 12, Noyan Tapannews agency reported July 13. All but 14 of the winners are partof the pro-government bloc, it said, and the CEC acknowledgedthat there had been more than 400,00 invalid ballots, not the40,000 it had reported earlier. Meanwhile, controversy about theelections continued with the opposition demanding a new vote.And on July 13 the six month suspension of the Armenian RevolutionaryFederation (Dashnak) expired–the ARF was suspended by Armenianpresident Levon Ter-Petrosian for suspected involvement with terrorism–butthe Federation’s officials said they had been unable to resumeoperations because of continuing government restrictions
