AZERBAIJAN LAUNCHES RETAIL AND SERVICE SECTOR PRIVATIZATION.

Azerbaijan inaugurated June 20 the privatization of retail stores and small-scale service establishments. The first six shops were sold that day to private bidders at an auction in Baku as part of the program’s initial stage, in which 500 retail outlets are to be privatized. Thousands more are to be offered at public auctions before the end of 1996. (Interfax, June 21)
