BALTIC STATES URGE COUNCIL OF EUROPE TO ADMIT UKRAINE.

In separate statements September 13, Estonian president Lennart Meri and Lithuanian chief delegate to the Council of Europe Algirdas Gricius said that their countries deemed Ukraine qualified for full membership in the Council of Europe and were urging the CE to admit Ukraine in the very near future. (15). Latvian foreign minister Valdis Birkavs issued a similar statement last week. Ukraine’s application is due for consideration by the CE’s Parliamentary Assembly at a session in Strasbourg September 26.
