According to his press secretary, Russian prime minister Viktor Chernomyrdin will meet with Georgian leader Eduard Shevardnadze and other officials during the one-day official visit. The two leaders are likely to discuss concrete measures for resolving conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia in exchange for the use of two or three Russian military bases in Georgia, as Shevardnadze intimated during a visit to Svanetia last Friday. The Georgian leader also said that he discussed a Georgian-Abkhaz settlement with Boris Yeltsin over the telephone last week. (14)
