Not for the first time, Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin told Moscow’s Echo radio June 7 that he will not run for president in 1996. In other comments, Chernomyrdin said that he was pleased that Yegor Gaidar’s Russia’s Choice group had practically allied itself with Chernomyrdin’s “Russia is Our Home” electoral bloc. But one of the leaders of Russia’s Choice, Viktor Sheinis, said that only the Saint Petersburg branch of his group was backing the premier.
