CIS SUMMIT AGENDA CALLS FOR 20 NEW ACCORDS.

After meeting with Russianpresident Boris Yeltsin May 17, Ivan Korotchenya, the Commonwealth ofIndependent States executive secretary, said that at their meeting in Minsknext week the 12 presidents would sign more than 20 new agreements, Moscow’sEcho radio reported. Among the new pacts will be one establishing anInterstate Currency Commission, a CIS human rights convention, and theextension of peace-keeping mandates in Tajikistan and Abkhazia. Past CISmeetings have seldom lived up to Moscow’s predictions, however, and at leastsome of the CIS member states are likely to object to one or more of thesemeasures.
