CLASHES INSIDE TAJIKISTAN.

On August 27 and September 1 and 4, an unidentified armed group raided the town of Kurgan-Tyube, a pro-government stronghold in southern Tajikistan. The attackers fired on the base of the Tajik army’s 11th special brigade. Some Tajik law enforcement sources trace the attack to the resistance movement, while others blame clan-based inter-service rivalries, Interfax reported September 1 and 4. Lesser clashes occurred on the Tajik-Afghan border, where the Tajik government charged September 1 in a letter to international organizations that the resistance was concentrating massive forces in prepararation for an offensive.
