Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov was cited by the Czech newspaper Pravo yesterday as saying that the possibility of his becoming Russia’s prime minister is under discussion with the CP’s allies. (2) Communist Viktor Ilyukhin, chairman of the outgoing Duma’s security affairs committee, told the press that the party has enough experienced managers and other professionals to staff two or three cabinets and who are ready to take responsibility for Russia’s future. But Ilyukhin added that the Communists would only join the government if offered the post of prime minister and a dozen or so other key portfolios. (3)
