The March 3 issue of Chechnya Weekly mistakenly referred to our contributor Zaindi Choltaev as “a former official of the separatist Maskhadov government.” In fact, Mr. Choltaev never served under Aslan Maskhadov, who was elected as Chechnya’s president in 1997. By that time Mr. Choltaev had already resigned from the separatist government because of his disagreements with its domestic and foreign policies involving human rights violations. Previously he had served as deputy foreign minister and as chairman of the administration in the Provisional State Council. He spent the academic year 2002 to 2003 in Washington as the visiting Galina Starovoitova Fellow at the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies. Chechnya Weekly regrets its error.
