Publication: Monitor Volume: 1 Issue: 46

The Dumawill consider a Communist-backed resolution of impeachment againstYeltsin on July 7, Russian radio reported. Although the resolutionis unlikely to pass, it does enjoy the requisite signatures ofone-third of the Duma’s membership and thus must be voted on.But on July 5, the Duma put off until July 19 consideration ofthe controversial nomination of Tatyana Paramonova to be presidentof the State Bank. The delay, which may make her confirmationmore likely, was generally viewed by Russian media as a victoryfor the Chernomyrdin government and its tight money policies.
