FAREWELL, MIR….

The last crew has left the Mir space station. Sergei Avdeev, a member of the last crew, spent a record 748 days in orbit. During its thirteen years in space, Mir had 106 different crew members who conducted over 19,000 experiments and performed seventy-seven space walks. Nine NASA shuttles docked with Mir, and seven NASA astronauts boarded the station. A “liquidation crew” will go up early next year to prepare Mir for its descent. The station should burn up over the Pacific.
