GORBACHEV LIKELY TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT.

A group of supporters has nominated former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev to be a presidential candidate in June. (17) Electoral regulations require the group to register and to collect at least one million signatures of support from a minimum of fifteen of Russia’s constituent territories by April 16. Gorbachev has not yet said that he will run for president, but has hinted about his intention of doing so. Most Russians discount the possibility that Gorbachev, now 65, has any chance of being elected.
