GRACHEV BACKS YELTSIN; DENIES PLOT.

In his first words to the public since being dismissed June 18, former Russian defense minister Pavel Grachev said July 3 that he still supports Boris Yeltsin. He also denied the existence of any military conspiracy against the Russian president, as was alleged by Security Council secretary and rival Aleksandr Lebed. Grachev said he is on vacation until September 1, when he expects the president to decide on a future assignment. (Interfax, Reuter, July 3)
