IMPASSE OVER RUSSIAN JEWELS.

A bizarre stand-off between Russia’s embassy and a Russian-American cultural organization entered its fifth day yesterday as two Russian embassy cars continued to block the departure of a truck that was to carry the Romanov jewels to a scheduled exhibition in Houston. The jewels remain at Washington’s Corcoran Gallery of Art, where they had been on display for ten weeks. The gallery’s management has decided not to release the jewels until legal questions connected to the exhibit are resolved. American museum officials are said to be bewildered by Moscow’s actions.
