Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 212

President Boris Yeltsin’s press secretary says the president will make an address to the nation by the end of this week. (RTR, November 11) He did not say whether the address would be on radio or television. Until undergoing surgery a week ago, Yeltsin was delivering a weekly radio address to the nation. Kremlin doctor Sergei Mironov told Russian television on November 10 that Yeltsin was likely to be discharged from the hospital and moved back to the Barvikha sanitarium outside Moscow "after November 20 or 22." Over the weekend Yeltsin’s surgeon, Renat Akchurin, revealed that the president was in such bad shape after his heart attack in July that he was considered at that time to have only a 50-50 chance of surviving a bypass operation.
