INGUSH DEMAND MOSCOW PROTECTION AGAINST OSSETIANS.

Ingush vicepresident Boris Agapov has demanded that Moscow protect his NorthCaucasian republic from attacks by the neighboring North Ossetians,Interfax reported May 28. Ingush citizens have been attacked byOssetians ever since the latter seized part of Ingush territory threeyears ago. But Moscow may be more interested in protecting theOssetians than in protecting the Ingush. Obshchaya gazeta (May 25-31)reported that the Russian prosecutor general had launched aninvestigation into charges that the Ingush are engaged in armssmuggling to Chechnya.
