KIEV, CHISINAU TO EXPAND MILITARY COOPERATION.

The defenseministers of Ukraine and Moldova, Valerii Shmarov and Pavel Creanga,have agreed to train Moldovan officers in Ukrainian militaryacademies, and to exchange military information, Basapress andFlux reported July 26. The ministers also discussed the possibletransit of military trains carrying the Russian arsenal from Moldovato Russia via Ukraine. Despite Russian defense ministry claimsthat Kiev opposes such transit, Shmarov raised no objection, askingonly that normal safety rules be observed. Creanga told Kiev mediathat Chisinau and Kiev are now preparing a transit accord eventhough Moscow has failed to ratify the 1994 Russian-Moldovan troopwithdrawal agreement.
