During a one-day meeting in Wisconsin yesterday German chancellor Helmut Kohl endorsed Boris Yeltsin for reelection and U.S. president Bill Clinton expressed strong support for the Russian incumbent. The two leaders also said they hoped recent developments in Chechnya would lead to the conclusion of fighting there. (Reuter, May 23)
