— MOLDOVA:

Communists and members of the Popular Front are calling on the country’s chief prosecutor (who responds to parliament, not to the president) to investigate “grave violations of law” connected with the sale last year of twenty-one old MiG-29 aircraft to the United States for US$40 million. The United States stepped in to buy the aircraft after Moldova reportedly received inquiries from states involved in international terrorism. The communists claim the government should have sold the planes through an open tender.
