On a four-day official visit to Germany, his first to that country, Moldovan president Mircea Snegur conferred with German president Roman Herzog and Chancellor Helmut Kohl on bilateral and regional issues. Herzog in turn said that Germany and other Western countries "support Moldova´s aspiration to be independent and secure." Snegur noted that Transdniester leaders stake their policy on the hope that nationalist-communist forces would eventually come to power in Russia. (13)
