MOSCOW DENIES GERMAN CORRUPTION ACCUSATIONS.

Russia’s intelligence agencies yesterday denied German allegations that Russian security personnel work in close cooperation with organized crime groups. A study by Germany’s BND intelligence agency had also concluded that ties between Russian security personnel and mafia groups is backed by the Russian government. (See yesterday’s Monitor) A spokesman for Russia’s Federal Security Service said the German charges were politically motivated. He also intimated that Russia’s security services do sometimes work with criminal groups — but only legally and in their fight against crime. (Itar-Tass, October 6)
