NEWSPAPER ID’S RUSSIAN SPY.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 145

The Russian newspaper Argumenty i fakty yesterday identified Platon Obukhov, a 28-year-old diplomat and the son of a former Soviet deputy foreign minister, as the Russian spy whose arrest led in May to a major diplomatic wrangle between Moscow and London. (See Monitor, May 7 & 20) A second secretary in the Foreign Ministry’s prestigious North America Department, Obukhov was also the author of popular espionage and crime thrillers. Russia’s Federal Security Service and the British embassy in Moscow declined comment on the newspaper’s story. (Reuter, July 24)
