RUSSIA NAMES MILITARY REP TO NATO.

Lt. Gen. Viktor Zavarzin has been named as the first Russian military representative at NATO headquarters in Brussels. From January 1996 until April of this year he commanded the CIS joint peacekeeping forces in Tajikistan. He then became a deputy chief of staff on the CIS military cooperation staff. In the early 1990s Zavarzin had commanded a joint Russian/Turkmen unit in Turkmenistan. (Russian media, October 20)
