RUSSIA WARNS TURKEY AGAINST INTERFERENCE.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 190
Russia’s ambassador to Cyprus warned on October 10 that Moscow would consider any attack by Turkey on a Russian ship carrying S-300 surface-to-air missiles to Cyprus an act of war. The ambassador also said that Russia intends to honor its agreement to sell the missiles to Cyprus unless Turkey agrees to a complete demilitarization of the island. (Cyprus Radio, October 10; Xinhua, October 11) Turkey has reacted furiously to the $660 million deal, signed in early January, that would bring the Russian S-300’s to Cyprus.
