RUSSIA/ESTONIA: FSB FOLLOW UP FEEBLE.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 98

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced the detention of an alleged arms smuggler from Estonia in Cheboksary, capital of the Russian Federation’s Chuvash republic. The arrested suspect is an ethnic Russian from Estonia, whose citizenship was not disclosed and who had carried a small number of Chinese-made pistols for sale in that city in central Russia. (BNS, May 20) The catch is a far cry from the FSB’s recent wave of accusations that official Estonian military structures were arming Chechen insurgents and the Irish Republican Army.
