RUSSIAN DIPLOMATS EVACUATED FROM CONGO.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 121

Russia has completed the evacuation of its embassy staff and their families from Brazzaville, the Congo’s conflict-torn capital. A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that continuing tension in the city, and especially France’s decision to withdraw its military contingent from the capital, were behind Moscow’s decision. French troops carried out the evacuation of the Russians and the remainder of some 5,000 other foreign nationalists left in Brazzaville. (Reuter, Radio Russia, June 19)
